I've had a lot of people asking me if we have any revision packs for plumbing level 3.
I was going to do a level 3 multiple choice pack similar to level 2, but when I got into it I discovered that the basic knowledge in level 3 is the same as level 2! The big difference between levels 2 and 3 is that in the plumbing part of the course, it's a lot more practical work based, and you have to get on with it yourself a lot more, rather than being taught the basics.. When it comes to plumbing theory, the City and Guilds tart it up a bit by calling the modules 'Complex'.. Complex cold water systems, for example. However the knowledge is the same, but they make the questions harder to read, so the Level 2 Revision pack will still be very useful if you have any exams.
In Level 3 you also have modules other than basic plumbing. Water regs - Unvented hot water - Gas. Water regs and Unvented aren't too difficult as there are really good work books which you will have, and they will give you all the information you need to pass the tests.
Gas, however, is not at all easy! Your teacher will probably suggest that you invest in the Viper Domestic Natural Gas Handbook. It costs about £40, and is worth every penny. There is also the Corgi Essential Gas Safety Handbook.. This is not an easy book to read! Very small print, and it won't stay open if you take your hand off it!!
When the time comes to take your CCN1 Assessment, you will be able to buy my CCN1 Revision and Training pack which will give you all the help you need to pass both the written and practical assessments. (it will be out in January)
One other thing you will have to do as part of level 3 is to design a conventional open vented central heating system. When that comes up, our Domestic Heating Controls training software pack (£13.95) will be very useful as it shows the layouts of all the open vent systems, including diagrams showing how to wire up the controls.
If anyone has any more information about the content of level 3, and what you need to get through it, please let us know.
